![]() The problem arises when a user gets a new camera. Yes - the desktop software will continue to be usable. Eventually we will all be assimilated but I intend to hang in there indefinitely. For those that use it for other than basic photo sorting and minor editing there may be a problem unless you "upgrade" to Google+ WEB service. Unless I completely misread Googles statement Picasa will carry on but will not be updated. Once MS gets you on their W-10 OS your headed for the clouds. MS, Google and Adobe to name a few are in phase one. I have not nor intend to make use of there WEB software.Īll software providers are going this way. This change to Google+ WEB service effects Google Plus users only. My take from all this is that Picasa software will be usable on our desktops but will not be updated or improved in any way. Sure, I read this right after responding to the OP. Been a Picasa user for about 10 years and no intent to go for alternatives. Now that it is going to be discontinued, I need to start looking for alternatives.Īnd this comes from where exactly? Perhaps Google just haven't gotten around to let me know. I have been using Google Picasa to organize my pictures for years. ![]() I think if you need more than simple organizational tools, you might as well jump into something like ACDSee rather than spend time looking for something just a bit less powerful. But I'm a pretty strong proponent of ACDSee. You might want to look at Faststone or Irfanview, they have the nice feature of being free. Any other suggestions, comments?īetween a rich, and somewhat complex, Photo manager like ACDSee 19 or ACDSee Pro 9 (incl raw development) and a rather simple photo organizer like you would find built into Photoshop Elements or PaintShop Pro. Previously I have been using BreezeBrowser, and maybe ACDSee is also a good option. I prefer putting most pictures on my hard drive, instead of putting them online. ![]() Granted that the software will still be usage, I never the less would like to take the opportunity to "grow up" and use some REAL software. Now that it is going to be discontinued, I need to start looking for alternatives. I then tell my family and mates that there's a new walk published and they can see it as an album on a link they already have to my Picasaweb siteĪre there any alternatives that are this easy? Photoshop etc are way too complicated for what I need.I have been using Google Picasa to organize my pictures for years. From Picasa I then simply select the ones I want to upload/publish on Picasaweb - about 25 tweeked and captioned onesĥ. Use Picasa to tweek the images and add captions - name of hills etc. Spend a whole day hill walking and take about 50 photos on my Leica D Lux 4ģ. To set the scene, this is my typical usage:-ġ. The new way seems geared up more towards mobile phone photography. ![]() I don't like the look of the new Google Photos and online editing and I don't necessarily want to have to upload / host all my photos with them, although I realise they already have the ones I've shared via Picasaweb. From Picasa, I can easily share whichever photos and collections I like A free, simple desktop editor and organiser of all my photos I'm no photo pro so the things I liked about Picasa and Picasaweb are:. Google are soon to discontinue Picasaweb and I would welcome alternatives to editing / organising / sharing my hill walking photos. ![]()
